Needle sizes reflect the thickness of fabric, the higher the needle size number the thicker the fabric.

TIP: Should the Universal needle skips stitches on the fabric, you may need to change to different needle. Some fabric such as Cotton, can be woven with a high thread count which makes the fabric surface tricky for the needle to go through. In this instance try a Microtex needle which are designed slightly differently.
