Bernina Pinpoint Laser - pinpoint position by seeing exactly where the needle will enter the fabric in every needle position. It will mark your start and travel point as you sew and embroider.
 
Fully Automatic Needle Threader - Follow the thread path and at the end just press the button on the machine and the needle is threaded.
 
Extra BSR Mode 3 - now use the BSR foot to baste (tack) your sewing together.
 
Sideways motion - now sew  sideways! Fabric is moved from left to right creating stitches that are wider than 9 mm. There are built in decorative sideways stitches which use sideways motion to stitch out or choose any stitch and control the direction it sews in. For example - select straight stitch and sew in a 45 degree angle, perfect for projects or dressmaking where access to certain area is restricted such as up a trouser leg.
 
Stitch designer - Create custom decorative stitches on the screen of the machine. Existing decorative stitches  can be edited in stitch designer as well.
 
Adaptive thread tension - ensures optimal thread tension during sewing and embroidery and helps achieve a perfect stitch. After manually adjusting (if required), the thread tension to the thread and fabric, the adaptive thread tension constantly checks the thread tension as you sew, adjusting it unobtrusively and automatically whenever necessary.
 
Stitches - 700 Decorative Stitches, 10 sewing alphabets.  Standard stitches, maximum stitch length 6 mm, maximum stitch width 9 mm, decorative sideways motion stitches sew wider than 9 mm and vary depending on stitch. 
 
Buttonholes -  built in measuring system. Place  button to the screen to determine the size after which the machine will automatically sew the correct size buttonhole.
 
Full colour touch screen - displays all stitches.  Any adjustments to the stitches are shown in real time. Multi function dials for width and length adjustment, can be changed whilst sewing.
 
On screen help - Sewing consultant advises for best needle and settings for the fabric used. Built in tutorials offer onscreen support without you having to keep looking at your manual, making it user friendly.
 
Long arm - gives an inside space of 10" (25.5 cm) to the right of the needle.
 
Built in memory - create names and stitch combinations to personalise your sewing projects.
 
Personal memory (permanent and temporary) - default settings for stitches can be altered to preferred settings and saved permanently until removed.  Any adjustments are saved even when the machine the switched off. Adjustments to stitch length, width and needle positions are temporary saved as you switch between different stitches. These settings are only saved whilst the machine is on, once switched off stitches will return to default settings.
 
History function - Up to 15 of the most recently used stitch patterns and all stitch alterations are saved in a separate memory
 
Jumbo bobbin - larger bobbin that has 70 % more capacity.
 
Automatic presser foot lift - raise and lower the presser foot automatically before and after sewing. The foot can hover leaving needle in the fabric so both hands stay on the fabric. Ideal for pivoting. Hover positions can be set to a preferred height.

Tapering function - beginning and end of stitch patterns come to a point in four different basic angles which can also be defined. Great for creating border designs or labels.
 
Dual feed - built in walking foot system that with one action simply engages into the back of the dual feed feet. A range of feet are available (optional extras) that can be used with the dual feed. A standard dual feed foot comes with the machine.
 
Bernina Stitch Regulator (BSR) - sophisticated sensor technology that monitors the speed at which the fabric moves and regulates the length of the stitches. For consistent stitch length when free motioning.
 
Foot pedal - with a heel tap function to bring the needle in or out of the fabric. On the 790 Plus this heel tap can be changed in settings to a different function.
 
 
Machine Embroidery
 
Designs - total 332 built in embroidery designs, with a further 18 embroidery alphabets. Additional designs can be transferred into the machine via the USB port.
 
The 790 can handle multiple embroidery formats which include:- EXP, DST, PES, PEC, JEF, SEW, PCS, and XXX.
 
Can embroidery up to 1,000 stitches per minute and has a maximum embroidery area of 400 mm x 260 mm.
 
Editing functions - Mirror image, group / ungroup, resize, combine, colour re sequencing, undo, rotate, are just some of the ways of adjusting the embroidery design. Any adjustments can be saved to the built in memory,  computer or  USB stick.
 
Shape Designer - duplicate embroidery designs and arrange then into a desired configuration such as in a circle, square or heart shape.
 
Pinpoint placement -  perfect placement of embroidery onto project, no need for template. Select 2 points and match them with marks on the hooped fabric for perfect results.
 
Thread away mode - pulls thread down to the underside for clean embroidery results on top.
 
Invisible and smart secure - secure stitches become invisible as the tie off are sew in stitch direction. Smart secure add tie on/off stitches to a design if none are preset.
 
Embroidery consultant - advises on correct foot, needle, thread and stabiliser according to fabric and/or embroidery technique.
