One to one sewing tuition sit down with one of our tutors and enjoy a sewing lesson on anything that you want to learn.

 

Do you want learn how to use your sewing machine or overlocker, whether new or old or are you stuck on a sewing project or technique.

 

Once purchased please contact us either via email or phone 0117 9778216 to book your lesson.

 

Lessons can be done via Zoom, and usually are broken down into 30 min lessons.  Just let us know when you book if the lesson is via Zoom

 

How do I access the Zoom lesson? 

We know for many people the idea of navigating Zoom can be daunting, please don't worry. Everything is arranged by us.

 

An email is sent to you containing a link for the one to one zoom lesson. Just click on the link and you will be directly taken to a waiting room. You do nothing else. We start the meeting at our end.

    Paid Lesson/s - One to one -

    • Our tutors guide you through a sewing project or getting to learn what your machine and accessories can do.   
    •  
    •  We believe in teaching you on your own machine, no matter the age or level of machine, even if you no longer have the manual.
    •  
    •  No expiry date on lesson/s – If you need to cancel, we can re-arrange for a later date.
    •  
    • Bringing machine to the lesson, make sure there is foot pedal, lead, bobbin and bobbin case. 
    •  
    •  Any machine must be in safe working order – ie: it forms a stitch and sews.
    •  
    •  Face to face lessons are limited to 1 hour at a time. - NB – Lesson/s run for allotted time booked. Arriving late results in a shorter lesson, ie:- lesson 10.00-11.00, arrive at 10.15 the lesson will finish at 11.00.-

    • Lessons are pre-booked, subject to availability. (Can vary during busy times of the year such as Christmas). Ring 0117 9778216 to book.

    •  Payment is taking at time of booking- Purchase blocks of time and save. Use the lesson when you need to, subject to availability.

    • Available face to face in store or via Zoom or a mixture of both. (Need to be stated at time of booking, an email address is required for Zoom).- NB -  Zoom lesson are limited into 30 minute time slots. An email address is required.
    • CANCELLATION 

    • Customer cancels – either prior or on the day, the lesson can be transferred to another date.

    • By Direct Sewing Machines Ltd – either prior to or on the day, the lesson will be transferred to another date

    •  We reserve the right to withdraw paid lessons or amend conditions at any time.

    Our tutors - have experience across all sewing genres including dressmaking, patchwork, quilting, costumes, soft furnishings, pattern drafting, embroidering to name a few.

    As professionals in their own right, they understand and know how to use all aspects of machines and feet.

    • Your Tutor - Jenny 

    From an early age, Jenny started sewing, which continued into school and onto college, studying a BTEC in Fashion, Design and Technology.

    Over 30 years of sewing experience, 10 years of which for Janome as a demonstrator and now for all machine brands. Overlocking is a specialism and Jenny's understanding your overlocker workshop is not to be missed.

    Jenny likes all aspects of dressmaking, especially finishing and embellishing using the embroidery machine, just ask her about the dragon prom dress, as well as using all her machines in combinations with other crafts.

    • Your Tutor  - Catherine
    Started sewing as a young girl and went on to gain a City and Guilds qualification in dressmaking, design,  pattern drawing and cutting.

    Catherine has over 20 years of sewing experience including bespoke wedding /special occasion dresses, specialised alterations, replica military uniforms and historical costumes for re-enactors, museums, The Birmingham Theatre Company, The Soho Theatre and Cosplay. 

     
    Catherine is passionate about all types of sewing, from dressmaking, quilting, computerised and free hand embroidery.

     

    That passion led to her writing a book on First World War Uniform Production.
